Stuart Patton Honored
Dr. Stuart Patton has been named Evan Pugh Professor of Agriculture at the Pennsylvania State University. He is the first to be so honored from the field of agriculture.
The Evan Pugh Research Professorships were established by the University's Board of Trustees in 1960 to recognize scholarly research achievements of faculty members and to provide support for continuation of their work. Five professors have such appointments in various fields of science at the University.
Dr. Patton, a Pennsylvania State graduate in Dairy Science, obtained his advanced degrees at the Ohio State University. He was a research fellow with the Ohio State University Research Foundation and a chemist with the Borden Company before joining Pennsylvania State's Department of Dairy Science as assistant professor in 1949.
Dr. Patton has become known internationally through numerous publications and a textbook. He has worked extensively in the fields of dairy chemistry, food flavors, milk biosynthesis and milk lipids. In 1957 he received the Borden Award for meritorious research on the chemistry of milk, sponsored by the American Chemical Society.
