ABSTRACT
The degree of association between body conformation and producing ability has been studied by numerous workers. Bayley et al. (1) ably reviewed most of the pertinent work in 1961. Almost invariably, workers have found a small positive correlation between yield and type. Freeman and Dunbar (2) found a phenotypic correlation of 0.08 between yield and type score in Ayrshire cattle. Harvey and Lush (3) reported a genetic correlation of 0.08 between yield and type in Jersey cattle. Tyler et al. (5) reported a correlation of 0.16 between milk yield and final type rating in Holstein cows. Also, they reported the correlation between dairy character and milk yield to be 0.25. Stone et al. (4) reported a correlation of 0.25 between yield and type ratings in Canadian Holsteins. Wilcox et al. (6) in 1962 substantiated these earlier findings by reporting correlations of 0.20 and 0.15 between yield and dairy character, and yield and final type rating, respectively.
