ABSTRACT
The organic acids present in normally ejaculated (NES) and epididymal-like ejaculated bovine spermatozoan (ELC) suspensions, before and after incubation at 7, 22, and 37 C in saline-fructose and skimmilk diluents, were determined by silicic acid chromatography. In the saline-fructose diluents only acetic, formic, lactic, glycolic, malic, and citric-isocitric acids were detected, whereas in the skimmilk diluents, in addition to the above were found caproic, butyric, propionic, pyruvic, fumaric, succinic, malonic, and oxalic acids. A change in the concentration of each of the measured acids occurred during the incubation period, with accumulation or loss of each acid being influenced both by incubation temperature and diluent, as well as by type of sperm, cell used.
