Comparison of Two Milk Fat Extraction Methods for Pesticide Residue Analysis1

Manfred Kroger and Stuart Patton

Department of Dairy Science, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park

ABSTRACT

Results, based on 38 comparisons, indicate that in the analysis of two organochlorine insecticides (heptachlor epoxide and dieldrin) in milk the fat recovery can be made with a surfactant method. This is faster, less expensive, and easier than the modified Roese-Gottlieb extraction commonly used.
