United States Representation at the 17th International Dairy Congress: A Report

R. E. Hodgson

Animal Husbandry Research Division, USDA, Beltsville, Maryland

ABSTRACT

The United States was represented at this Congress meeting by a 12-man official delegation and some 40 individuals representing various interests of the dairy industry. More than 2,300 members from 54 countries and international organizations registered their attendance.

Since the International Dairy Federation (IDF) sponsors the International Dairy Congresses, it is desirable to include an organization statement abstracted from an official IDF document.

The IDF was created more than 60 years ago, during its first meeting in 1903, in Brussels where the Federation's pennanent offices have always been located.

The Statutes of the Federation state that: "the object of the IDF is to promote through international cooperation, the solution of scientific, technical and economic problems in the international dairy field. The IDF shall not interfere in the purely domestic matters of any country."

The IDF is a nonprofit organization of 28 member countries in all parts of the world, each represented by a National Committee and each having equal rights and duties.
