ABSTRACT

Emeritus Status to M. E. Powell

Dr. M. E. Powell, Director of Research and Development for the Knudsen Creamery Company in Los Angeles, retired May 1, 1967.

Scotty, as he is affectionately known in academic and industrial circles, earned the B. S. degree in Dairy Manufactures (1926), the M. S. degree in Dairy Processing (1930), and the Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry (1934), at the Universities of Illinois, Missouri, and Minnesota, respectively.

Finishing graduate work he decided to pursue an industrial career. In 1935 he was appointed to the staff of Abbott Dairies Inc., in Cameron, Wisconsin. His first assignment was to establish a research and quality control laboratory, over which he was director for five years.

In 1940 Scotty joined the Knudsen Creamery Company where his career was interrupted by World War II. He was called into active military service in April 1941 with the rank of Captain in the Corps of Engineers.
