Use of Liquid-Scintillation Systems in Biological Studies

M. H. Ehlers

Department of Animal Sciences, Washington State University, Pullman

ABSTRACT

Liquid scintillation counting is useful in determination of activity from a sizable list of low-energy beta emitters. The scintillation systems have high efficiency. Proportional counting makes it possible to eliminate much background which aids in counting isotopes having relatively low activity. Instrumentation advances permit double-label counting such as H3 and C14. The utility of biological studies continues to increase, because of the development of systems which permit the counting of water-soluble materials.
