ABSTRACT
The eight study meetings of the European Association for Animal Production (EAAP) were held in Noordwijk, The Netherlands, June 22 to 25, 1965. Of particular interest to the American Dairy Science Association were the meetings of the Animal Genetics Commissions.
The Commission on Animal Nutrition, under the chairmanship of Prof. Knut Breirem of Norway, concentrated particularly on feeding standards and feed evaluation, and on trace elements. Prof. A. M. Frens, of the Netherlands, gave the report of the Sub-Commission on feeding standards for dairy cows. It was quite evident that the energy balance studies by Flatt et al. in the United States, Blaxter et al. in the United Kingdom, and Nehring and associates at Rostock, Germany, were having a major impact on the thinking of the dairy cattle nutritionists in Europe. The discussion centered around the relative merits of metabolizable vs. net energy, with due reference to the more sophisticated researches of recent years. The subject was considered to still be quite controversial.
