Dairy Scientist, Dean and University President
Dairy Scientist, Dean and University President. These three titles can be claimed by only one man in Idaho and few in history. As esteemed as these offices are, they are dwarfed by the accomplishments of Donald R. Theophilus during his 37 years of service to the University and the people of Idaho.
In 1927, when Theophilus first set foot in Idaho, few realized what his coming would mean to the state, its educational system and thousands of young Idaho people. His record as a student at Iowa State was excellent. He was a success as head of the Dairy Department at Western Kentucky State College. But, he had made no marks in the West.
As a dairy professor in the College of Agriculture, Theophilus made student instruction his first responsibility. But, in addition, he recognized that he must learn intimately the state of Idaho and more importantly the people in its dairy industry. He soon knew what Idaho dairymen wanted and needed and made it his business to help provide these.
