J. B. Frye Jr. Honored by the Southern Association

ABSTRACT

Jennings Bryan Frye Jr. was born near Springhill, Louisiana, on Sept. 3, 1918. His lovely wife was formerly Agnes Henderson of Zachary, Louisiana. The family consists of four children: Nona Louise, Jennings Bryan III, Barton Lee, and Lloyd H. Frye.

Dr. Frye earned his B.S. degree at Louisiana State University in 1935, his M.S. degree in 1940 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1945 at Iowa State University. In the summer of 1939 he served as Instructor at Louisiana Polytechnic Institute and was Graduate Research Assistant at Iowa State University from 1939 to 1942.

During 1942 to 1945 in the U.S. Army he was Captain of an Infantry Combat Unit for 13 months in Europe. He participated in five major campaigns, was awarded the Oak Leaf Cluster to the Bronze Star and received the Presidential Unit Citation for distinguished service.

Returning from the war he became Associate Professor of Dairy Science at the University of Georgia from 1945 to 1948.

In 1948 he returned and became Professor and Head of the Department of Dairy Science at Louisiana State University.
