John G. Archibald, 71, retired former Professor of Animal Nutrition at University of Massachusetts, died December 10th at his home in Bradenton, Fla. He was a faculty member of the university for more than 40 years.
His first position was research assistant in Feb. 1, 1921, in the Massachusetts Agricultural Experiment Station, and he had served under seven college presidents and four experiment station directors.
Prof. Archibald was the author of more than 100 publications including experiment station bulletins and technical journal articles. The 1961 student International Livestock Show was dedicated to him.
Born in Cavendish, Prince Edward Island, Canada, he was graduated from Ontario Agricultural College in 1916, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and received his Master of Science Degree in 1924 from Massachusetts Agricultural College.
From 1916 to 1920 he was an assistant in chemistry at Nova Scotia Agricultural College and a research chemist with International Nickel Co., Ontario, for a year.
