ABSTRACT
Basis for Development of an Animal Science Course
Early in the fall of 1960, a committee in the College of Agriculture was appointed to make a study of the lower-division curriculum and to make recommendations to the faculty for changes or revisions. Through an intensive study of 1) lower-division agricultural course outlines; 2) lower-division curricula of other land-grant institutions; 3) industry, business, and professional groups' suggestions; 4) student and former student comments and reactions; and, 5) the College Administration—this committee attempted to define the problems confronting our college and to pin-point those significant factors that dictated a re-evaluation of the thencurrent curriculum. Of these factors it seemed that two were basic to our problems: 1) the rapid changes taking place in the agricultural industry, and 2) the declining per cent of good high school graduates choosing agriculture for a career.
It is not necessary to dwell upon the scientific and technological advances taking place in agriculture.
