ABSTRACT
The Education Committee of the American Dairy Science Association is to be commended for focusing attention of its members on the continuing importance of superior teaching. Our universities must be ever-mindful of their responsibilities for improvement of courses and course content, as well as new and more effective methods for presentation of subject matter in the classroom.
The Chairman of your Education Committee offered this admonition to me in his letter setting forth my responsibilities here this afternoon. I quote, "Give a good presentation relative to the administrator's problems in developing a strong agricultural teaching program as well as make some suggestions which departments of dairy science should consider in strengthening their teaching programs." I shall attempt to respond to those instructions, but in doing so I reserve the right to go beyond any restrictions explicit or implied in that brief statement.
There were several significant statements in Professor Senger's letter inviting me to appear on your program.
1 Presented at the Sixtieth Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association, University of Kentucky, Lexington, June, 1965.
