L. E. Casida and G. W. Salisbury Honored
Two American scientists received the insignia of the Order of Cavaliere Ufficiale from the Republic of Italy at the office of the Italian Consul General in Chicago on February 24, 1966.
The insignia in the shape of a white cross was pinned on Dr. Glenn W. Salisbury, professor and head of the Department of Dairy Science, University of Illinois, Urbana; and Dr. Lester E. Casida, professor of genetics, University of Wisconsin, Madison, by Augusto Eusso, consul general of Italy.
Both men were honored for their contributions to the field of animal breeding. The honor was presented on behalf of the President of the Italian Republic, Giuseppe Saragat, who is head of the Order of Cavaliere Ufficiale.
Dr. Salisbury has been professor and head of the Department of Dairy Science at the University of Illinois since 1947. He has received many honors in the fields of reproductive physiology and genetics of dairy cattle including the Award of Merit at the Fifth International Congress on Animal Reproduction and Artificial Insemination held in Italy in 1964; the Morrison Award of the American Society of Animal Science, 1964; the Gold Medal of Michigan State University Centennial, 1955; and the Borden Award, administered by the American Dairy Science Association, 1945.
