ABSTRACT
There were 201 research papers, 68 technical notes, 15 industry papers, 20 symposium papers, 299 abstracts and three book reviews published in Volume 49 of the Journal for 1966 (Table 1). Total pages will be about 200 less than were published in Volume 48. This is because all symposia presented at the Annual Meeting have not been published, and also because printing has not kept pace with receipt of papers.
At this writing we have 74 accepted papers ready for the printer. This is the largest number ever accumulated. Sixty papers reviewed by the editorial board have been returned to authors for suggested revisions.
Literature Reviews
Present literature retrieval systems, abstracting Journals, and reviews, have not kept pace with the exponential rate at which papers in the biological sciences are being published. Consequently it has become more difficult, if not impossible, for teachers, researchers, and extension people to remain masters of their subjects.
1 Submitted in abbreviated form to the Executive Board at the 61st Annual Meeting of the Association, Oregon State University, Gorvallis, June 1966.
