ABSTRACT

• Professor George M. Werner has retired as Extension Specialist in Dairy Science at the University of Wisconsin. He has been an employee of the University since 1920 and has served as Extension Dairyman since 1939. He started as herdsman and was advanced through the ranks to professor.

The contributions made by Professor Werner to the dairy industry have been recognized both locally and nationally. In 1960, he was awarded the American Dairy Science Association's De Laval Award as the outstanding dairy extension specialist in the United States. He also is a recipient of the USDA Superior Service Award. His contributions in the field of artificial insemination have been recognized by AI associations. His work with the purebred industry has also been recognized by state breed organizations. Professor Werner has also helped to pioneer programs in producing quality forage and in merchandising dairy cattle.

In addition to maintaining an active interest in the dairy business, Professor Werner plans to spend considerable time in the future fishing and hunting.
