Dr. Serge N. Timasheff is Given Distinguished Service Award
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's highest honor, its Distinguished Service Award, was presented in Washington, D. C., on May 18 to Dr. Serge N. Timasheff, whose research elucidating the structure of milk proteins has earned him a worldwide reputation in the field of physical chemistry.
Dr. Timasheff, who works in Wyndmoor, Pa., at the Eastern utilization laboratory of the Agricultural Research Service, received his award from Secretary of Agriculture Orville L. Freeman in outdoor ceremonies at the Sylvan Theater on the grounds of the Washington Monument.
This is the third consecutive year in which Dr. Timasheff has received a significant award. Last year he won the Arthur S. Flemming Award as one of the ten outstanding young men in the Federal Government. In 1963 the American Chemical Society recognized his work by presenting him with the $1000 Borden Award in the Chemistry of Milk and holding a special symposium in his honor.
