Symposium: International Interests and Activities of the American Dairy Science Association

Possibilities and Desirability of Extending Foreign Membership and Organizing Foreign Division Affiliates

G. W. Salisbury

Department of Dairy Science, University of Illinois, Urbana

ABSTRACT

My subject is fourfold: It deals with the possibilities and the desirability of two action patterns by members of this Association. The first of these action patterns has to do with 1) extending foreign membership in this Association. The desirability of this action can be dismissed with but a few words. The Journal of our Association now finds its way into sixty-five countries besides our own. Since 1922 membership has been available to people in other countries, providing the potential member had the financial means to pay the fee and the persons involved held positions in the field entitling them to sponsorship by a member, just as is required of anyone in this country desiring to hold membership. Many members in foreign countries have been students here and by this means have held on to a bit of Americana in their home land. Others have joined because of the dire need to know what is happening in the field of science or in industry.
