ABSTRACT
As we take more active roles in international activities, there is a definite need for collaboration and teamwork between the American Dairy Science Association and the American Society of Animal Science. Most of us are active members of both societies. Many of our disciplines, such as nutrition, genetics, animal breeding, and physiology, cut across all animal species. Education and research in dairying in other countries usually are located in animal husbandry. In some countries animal husbandry is a separate discipline, whereas in many it is an integral part of veterinary medicine. Relatively few people are trained specifically in dairying as distinct from other animal sciences.
Any association or society that might be organized in Latin American countries, for example, is likely to include people representing all aspects of animal production and, possibly, dairy technology. It should be recognized, also, that the trend in the United States has been toward the consolidation of animal, dairy, and poultry husbandry departments.
