ABSTRACT

Alfred M. Ghormley 1896–1965

Alfred M. Ghormley, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Carnation Company, died January 30 at his home in Los Angeles.

Mr. Ghormley was 68. He joined Carnation's in 1915 and held a series of increasingly responsible positions, serving as Manager of Carnation Milk Farms, President of Albers Milling Company, a subsidiary of Carnation Company, Vice President in charge of Carnation's Fresh Milk and Ice Cream division and as a Director of General Milk Company, the company's foreign affiliate. He was elected President of the company in 1960 and Vice-Chairman in 1963.

Alfred Ghormley was regarded as one of the nation's outstanding authorities in dairying, food manufacture and distribution. In addition to his many corporate duties, he was active in community affairs. He had been a trustee of Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital, Children's Hospital Society of Los Angeles, the Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California, and the Beverly Hills Community Presbyterian Church.
