ABSTRACT
Present era—One of radical change. The survival and progress of our society largely depends on the effectiveness of our national ability to adjust to change. The rate of change is accelerating in many fields of human endeavor, especially in science and technology. For example, a leader of American industry recently predicted that science and technology will advance more in the next 36 years than in all prior history (5). Accordingly, the present era may be realistically referred to as one of radical change.
Opportunities and problems resulting from the unprecedented growth rate of science and technology will significantly influence the destiny and character of present and future plans and programs of most industrial, governmental, and educational organizations. How to constructively adjust to the presently accelerating rate of change is, therefore, a major problem of and challenge to our total society.
To constructively contribute to our national welfare and security, all educational organizations have a duty and an opportunity to assist our society in improved understanding of and adjustment to radical man-made changes.
