ABSTRACT

The many friends of J. M. Frayer were saddened to learn of his sudden passing on January 15, 1964. He was born in Nunda, New York, January 31, 1889. He graduated from Cornell University in 1915 with a Bachelor of science Degree in Agriculture. After graduation he was employed as chemist and sanitarian for Nestlé Food Company. During World War I he inspected butter for the U. S. Navy and after the Armistice in 1918 he became chemist for the Lyndonville Creamery Association in Vermont.

In 1927 Jim, as he was affectionately called, came to Burlington, where he assumed a part-time position with the Vermont Agricultural Experiment Station, devoting the remainder of his time to the position of city milk inspector. In 1929, he was appointed Dairy Bacteriologist in the experiment station, a position he held until retiring in 1954. He earned the M.S. degree at the University of Vermont in 1936.
