Guide Lines for American Dairy Science Association Graduate Student Scientific Paper Presentation Contest
ABSTRACT
Following the judging of contestants in the 1963 Contest, a Committee composed of N. D. Bayley of Beltsville, Md., E. C. Meyer of Hoard's Dairyman, K. L. Turk of Cornell University, and ex-officio members L. J. Boyd of Michigan State University and J. L. Albright of Purdue University drafted the following suggestions:
- General agreement exists concerning the use and effectiveness of the score-card.
- Clarity of previous work and why the present research was undertaken would be helpful in the paper presentation.
- Summation of the work and where the results might lead should be encouraged.
- Handling of questions should be improved. Questions should be repeated for the benefit of the audience and contestant. The answers should reveal the contestant's depth, reasoning ability, and conciseness.
- Many of the slides were too complicated with too many figures. Several contestants did not attempt to explain their tables. Greater attention to visual aids and props should be a goal.
