Department of Animal Industries, University of Connecticut, Storrs

ABSTRACT

Total lipid content of bovine spermatozoa and seminal plasma averaged 12.0 and 1.35%, respectively. Lipids separated by thin-layer chromatography and analyzed gravimetrically, averaged for spermatozoa (%): phospholipids 73.3, cholesterol 14.5, diglycerides 6.5, triglycerides 3.1, and wax esters 2.6. Similar values for seminal plasma were: phospholipids 68.6, cholesterol 20.2, diglycerides 4.0, triglycerides 4.0, and wax esters, 3.2.
