ABSTRACT
We in Extension are used to critical self-appraisal, redefining our position, asking ourselves, what are we now? and where are we going?
That is why I readily accepted the invitation to discuss Extension's role in Dairy Herd Improvement Associations (DHIA).
Since then I've frequently thought I might contribute more by listening to you people whose lives and daily work are so closely allied to DHIA and its great influence in the Extension program and in the dairy industry.
You will note I did not say DHIA and its great influence in the dairy extension program ... I carefully chose to say its great influence in the whole Extension program.
You and I could document this influence by recounting many influences exerted in the past. But there's the future to consider. I'd like to illustrate how our hard-won experience in DHIA is a focal point in building Extension's future.
