ABSTRACT

Dr. E. L. Jack Retires at California

Dr. E. L. Jack, a pioneering researcher into the basic chemistry and quality factors of milk, will retire on December 31 after 27 years with the University of California at Davis.

Recipient of many scientific and industry awards for his contribution to milk research, Dr. Jack served from 1946 until 1959 as chairman of the University of California Department of Dairy Industry. He was honored by his colleagues and by industry officials during a retirement dinner at Davis on November 10.

In recent years, Dr. Jack has served widely in industry and scientific posts. During 1963, he was visiting professor at University College, Cork, Ireland, and also served as a consultant to the Portuguese Ministry of Overseas Provinces on problems of food technology.

In 1961, he was president of the American Dairy Science Association, and a member of the editorial board of the JOURNAL OF DAIRY SCIENCE.
