Lynn Copeland

Dairy Extension Department, University of Tennessee, Knoxville

ABSTRACT

Lifetime production records were tabulated on 654 high record and classified Jersey heifers listed in Volume 1 of the Performance Register, all having initial, first-calf records of over 9,000 lb of milk (actual) in 305 days. This was done by a page check through Volume 1 and all succeeding volumes up to and including Volume 12 for 1963. The Excellent cows averaged 5.76 lactations. Those initially classified Very Good averaged 4.95 lactations, the ones first rated Good Plus 4.16, those rated Good 3.58, and the ones given Pair ratings had an average of 3.50 lactations. Lifetime totals were as follows: Excellent 62,959 lb, Very Good 50,050 lb, Good Plus 40,366 lb, Good 35,120 lb, and the Fair heifers 32,577 lb.
