The Board of Trustees expresses its sorrow at the death on April 17, 1964, of Emory Frederick Almy, Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Biochemistry.
Professor Almy was born in Greenwood, Nebraska, on July 6, 1895. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemistry at the University of Nebraska in 1916 and 1917, respectively. He received his Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1929. He was a veteran of World War I serving in the chemical corps in munitions production. Immediately following, he was with the Nestlé Co. a short time. He came to the Ohio State University as an Assistant in the Department of Agricultural Chemistry and Soils in 1919. He was made Instructor in 1921, Assistant Professor in 1925; Associate Professor in 1934 and Professor in 1940. During World War II he was with the M. and R. Dietetics Laboratory. He became Professor Emeritus in 1960.
Professor Almy and his students did significant work in the chemistry of milk.
