ABSTRACT

John C. Thompson Retires

J. C. THOMPSON has attained nationwide recognition as an authority in his field, having had experience both in research and in the practical management of commercial herds.

A native of Clarion County, Pennsylvania, Mr. Thompson grew up on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. He started his undergraduate studies in agriculture at Pennsylvania State University, and received A.B. and M.S. degrees in Dairy Production and Nutrition at Ohio State University.

He had experience in managing commercial dairy herds and in teaching. For 5 yr before joining Purina in 1943, he served as North-eastern Fieldman for the American Jersey Cattle Club.

As manager of all of Purina's research in dairy nutrition and management for 20 yr, Mr. Thompson supervised the many projects in this field at the Purina Research Farm in Missouri, in the company's research laboratories in St. Louis, and in various feeding projects across the country.
