ABSTRACT
This book, the successor to the 1945 edition of Anderson's The Semen of Animals and Its Use in Artificial Insemination, has been written by 13 contributing specialists in addition to the editor. The authors have accomplished well the stated purpose of up-dating the early forerunner of this book.
The first and longest section of the book, written by D. R. Melrose, covers 181 pages on the various aspects involved in the artificial insemination of cattle. The second part of the book on artificial insemination in other animals consists of nine chapters, each dealing with a different species. These include the water buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, donkeys, dogs, rodents, and poultry. The final section of the book has two special chapters, one on development of artificial insemination in the tropics, and the other one the exportation of semen.
The book is an excellent compilation of late information on artificial insemination of the several species considered and each chapter is well documented with literature citations.
