ABSTRACT

Dr. E. W. Aiton Appointed Director Extension Service in Maryland

DR E. W. AITON, assistant administrator of the Federal Extension Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture, will fill the post from which DR. P. E. NYSTROM retired on December 31, 1962.

He was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, in 1910 and holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Minnesota and the Ed.D. degree from the University of Maryland.

Between 1933 and 1946, he was associated with the University of Minnesota as a vocational agriculture instructor, county extension agent, and assistant state 4-H club leader in charge of older youth programs. He was appointed 4-H field agent for the 12 northeastern states, including Maryland, and national leader of older youth programs in 1946 by the Federal Extension Service of USDA. He was named executive director of the National 4-H Club Foundation in 1951, and director of the division of 4-H Club and YMW programs in the Federal Extension Service in 1952.
