Report of the Journal Management Committee

F. J. Doan, H. A. Herman, E. O. Herreid, H. F. Judkins and J. F. Cavanaugh, Chairman

ABSTRACT

The Journal Management Committee met on November 2 and 3, 1961, in the offices of the American Jersey Cattle Club, Columbus, Ohio. This meeting was called by Chairman J. F. Cavanaugh to consider the publication of a popular technology journal, to determine the future status of the A.D.S.A. Review, and to study printing costs.

POPULAR JOURNAL

The background, of the effort to make the JOURNAL OF DAIRY SCIENCE more useful and the scientific papers more understandable to the large proportion of the Association membership who are not strictly scientists, was reviewed and discussed, going back to the Journal Management Committee survey of 1953–54 and giving attention to the Publication Policy Committee report of 1959.

A limited sampling of membership opinion by Secretary-Treasurer Judkins relative to publishing a popular technology journal was considered, with comments from advertisers in the JOURNAL OF DAIRY SCIENCE and a study of the Association's financial potential.
