ABSTRACT

George Bulkley Retires

On November 1, G. S. BULKLEY completed 49 years of service in the dairy industry—exactly 44 years of this with Carnation Company and Carnation Milk Farms. He has served in practically every area of Dairy Science from farm milk production to the manufacture and distribution of milk products.

Bulkley was born and reared on a large, commercial dairy farm near Chicago. After receive his B.S. degree at the University of G. S. Bulkley Wisconsin in 1914, he joined the faculty at Pennsylvania State College, first as Instructor, then as Dairy Extension specialist. It is of interest to note that in this period, 25 years prior to the advent of artificial insemination, his program included intensive campaigns of organizing block-bull clubs in most of the northern Pennsylvania dairy counties, being assisted in Tioga County by the young County Agent, Enos J. Perry, who later became the founder of A.I. in U.S.A.
