ABSTRACT

Charles L. Blackman

C. L. BLACKMAN, professor of Dairy Science Extension at the Ohio State University since October 9, 1925, retired on April 30, 1963. Throughout this period of nearly four decades he taught better dairying to Ohio dairymen with the current knowledge on adequate feeding, sire selection, and the 4-H Club projects. He served as Secretary and motivator for the Ohio Dairyman's Association from 1958–1962, during which time he recorded the history of their activities. He helped set the stage for the Ohio Dairy Day program, now in its 36th year. He became an early member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America, and represented Ohio in the delegate body at numerous animal meetings. He was a dedicated member of the American Dairy Science Association since the early 1920's, and a participant in the annual meetings which he regularly attended.

Blackman was born in Peaks Island, the eastern side of Portland Harbor, off the coast of Maine.
