ABSTRACT

Richard Naaman Davis

The passing May 11, 1963 of Professor R. N. Davis, dairy scientist in the Department of Dairy Science, was a great loss to the University of Arizona as well as to the State of Arizona. Mr. Davis' long association with dairying in Arizona was distinguished by devoted and energetic service to the industry and the University. Mr. Davis retired as Head of the Department of Dairy Science in 1955 but continued his work as dairy scientist until his death, at which time he had served the University for 43 years. In 1959, he published a book, History in Dairying in Arizona, which serves as an important record of the state's early and contemporary dairy industry. He was awarded the University's Medallion of Merit during the observance of the Seventy-Fifth Anniversary of its founding in 1960.

R. N. Davis was born in Athens, Alabama, on October 20, 1885. He grew up on a farm and attended rural schools in Alabama.
