Food and Agricultural Organization Programs in Dairying in Developing Countries

ABSTRACT

I deeply appreciate being invited to participate in this important symposium held in connection with the 58th Annual Meeting of the American Dairy Science Association.

My visit to your Midwest is not without memories. After spending more than 20 yr in the fascinating but troublesome atmosphere of China, then nearly a decade in classic Rome, I find myself back in the Midwest where, just after graduation, I spent more than two happy and inspiring years of my life. I still count among my friends many of the people I met and worked with in those days.

I am well aware of the many achievements of your Association. I know that it is the largest group of dairy scholars and experimental workers in the world and that, for 58 yr, it has devoted itself unsparingly to improving education and to initiating research in dairy science and technology.
