ABSTRACT

Secretary Idtse to Retire

FRED S. IDTSE, who became the Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders' Association's first fieldman on January 1, 1938, and who has capably and faithfully served as secretary-treasurer from January 1, 1942, asked to retire June 30, 1963.

Under Mr. Idtse's able guidance and leadership, the Brown Swiss breed has made tremendous progress and improvement. In 1938 he started the Canton Show, State Show, and State Herd programs based on district and statewide participation. The same year he introduced the Parade of Champions at the National Dairy Show at Columbus, Ohio, a promotional stunt that has thrilled everyone each year at the National Show.

The Brown Swiss Cattle Breeders' Association, its growth and development, has been Mr. Idtse's life. He was instrumental in developing the Brown Swiss type classification program approved in November, 1942. This was the first time that a breed association had provided a classification breakdown based on the uniform score-card.
