ABSTRACT
More than 35 people attended a special session of the 57th Annual Meeting of the A.D.S.A. in June at the University of Maryland to discuss dye-binding methods for the determination of protein in milk. There was general agreement that the dye-binding methods offer promise, but many details must be standardized before technicians can be trained and licensed to do commercial analyses.
The discussion aroused so much interest that it was decided to request the Milk Composition Committee to appoint an ad hoc subcommittee to stimulate further research, and to promote exchange of information among those working in this field. As a result, this subcommittee has been formed under the chairmanship of Professor B. L. Herrington of Cornell University. The other members of the committee are Professor U. S. Ashworth of Washington State University, and Dr. Charles A. Kiddy of the Dairy Cattle Research Branch, USDA. All persons engaged in research on dye-binding methods for protein in milk are asked to inform B. L. Herrington, Stocking Hall, Cornell University, Ithaca, N. Y., of their interest, so that they may be included in the group exchanging ideas and information.
