Can the Journal of Dairy Science be Useful to Latin American Countries?

Earl Weaver

Dairy Department, Michigan State University, East Lansing

ABSTRACT

Men from the United States, who have some knowledge of dairy conditions in Latin American countries, entertain no doubts that our JOURNAL OF DAIRY SCIENCE could be useful in those countries. My full realization of this value was reached through the opportunity I had in serving a 4-yr. period (1955 to 1959) as a staff member from Michigan State University on the Technical Aid mission to the College of Agriculture at Medellin, Colombia.

During my assignment to Colombia, special efforts were exerted to visit other countries, too. Visits were made to Ecuador, Peru, Chili, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Venezuela. From nearly all contacts and observations that were made, it was apparent that the JOURNAL could be of extreme value to dairy teachers, students, research workers, and other dairy leaders.

There are many agencies in the United States that are dedicated to Technical Assistance for so-called underdeveloped countries. These agencies have accomplished a great deal of good.
