ABSTRACT

Data from one set of monozygotic triplet Holstein bulls indicated that at least seven successive ejaculates could be collected once each week for at least a year with no detrimental effects on semen quality or libido. The bulls giving four and seven ejaculates per week produced 2.4 and 3.0 times as many spermatozoa as the bull giving two ejaculates per week.

Additional data from one set of monozygotic triplet and three sets of monozygotic twin Holstein bulls indicated that the collection of two ejaculates every two days or four days for a period of 2 yr. did not result in appreciable loss in libido or semen quality as compared to bulls giving two ejaculates every seven days. Bulls giving two ejaculates every two and four days produced 2.1 and 1.2 times as many spermatozoa as bulls giving two ejaculates once every seven days.
