ABSTRACT
Dairy industry in the U.S.S.R. is forging ahead. Progress is being made on all fronts. There has been a great increase in the number of dairy cattle in Russia during recent years, and the productivity per cow is increasing rapidly. True, from detailed studies, we are not at all sure how accurate their figures are; but, based on recent reports, real progress is being made in the production, processing, and distribution of milk and other dairy products.
At the same time, it is well to remember that, based on the best available comparative report of work required in the U.S.S.R. and in the U.S.A., the average Russian has to work about 4
times as long to buy a quart of milk as does an American. He must work 33 min. to buy a quart of milk as compared with 7 min. in the U.S.A. If the Russian wants to buy a pound of butter, he must work for 3 hr. and 20 min., as compared with about 20 min. in the U.S.A.
