ABSTRACT
The effect of altering the density and viscosity of deterging mediums by antifoam additions was investigated. Such additions were essentially without effect on the pressure side of the system, and inhibited cleaning on the vacuum side. This latter is ascribed to a limiting of the scrubbing action of occluded air and bubbles. It was demonstrated that, under controlled conditions, cleaning is more effective on the vacuum side, and that the effectiveness is further increased by permitting air to leak into the system.
