A Study of the Value of Corn Distillers Dried Grains, Cocoanut Oil Meal, and Corn Gluten Feed for Milk Production

R. G. Warner, J. K. Loosli and R. F. Davis1

Department of Animal Husbandry, Cornell University, Ithaca, N. Y.

ABSTRACT

Two lactation experiments were conducted with 12 cows in each test, fed concentrate mixtures containing corn gluten feed, corn distillers dried grains, or cocoanut oil meal at a level of 40% of the mixture. The feed containing cocoanut oil meal resulted in a highly significant increase in the fat content of the milk. Cows receiving corn distillers dried grains produced more total milk (P < 0.10) than when on the two other mixtures. The differences in production of fat-corrected milk were not significant.
